Job Description

The CTSS Skills Worker provides therapeutic and rehabilitative skills training to children and adolescents diagnosed with emotional or behavioral disorders. The role focuses on restoring skills in emotional regulation, social functioning, communication, and daily living through structured interventions delivered in home, school, community, or office settings. Skills Workers collaborate with families, mental health professionals, schools, and community partners to support each child’s treatment plan and long-term developmental progress.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities
  • Provide individual, family, and group skills training, including coping skills, emotional regulation, social skills, executive functioning, and communication skill-building.
  • Reinforce therapeutic skills taught in psychotherapy as medically necessary interventions.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Individualized Treatment Plans (ITPs) based on recommendations from a Mental Health Professional.
  • Deliver services in homes, schools, community settings, or agency offices to ensure accessible and effective care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all billable services, contacts, and client progress.
  • Coordinate meetings with families, team members, and natural supports as clinically appropriate.
  • Participate in ongoing clinical supervision from a Mental Health Professional.
  • Assist with program coordination and organization.

  • Therapeutic & Clinical Skills: Ability to teach psychosocial, emotional regulation, and behavioral skills.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication for working with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Must be able to communicate tactfully and effectively and maintain confidentiality.
  • Documentation & Organization: Ability to maintain detailed documentation and manage caseloads effectively. This includes the use of the Electronic Health Record.
  • Independence & Initiative: Can work independently in community settings while exercising sound judgment. Must possess the ability to learn and interpret school policies and procedures.
  • Problem-Solving & Crisis Response: Supports youth in navigating behavioral challenges and developing coping strategies.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to changing school schedules and at times work non-traditional hours.
Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or higher. Would consider applicants who qualify as a Mental Health Practitioner as defined in MN State Statute 245I.04, subdivision 4. Experience working with children and knowledge of child behavior and intervention experience strongly preferred.

Required Licensure and Certifications

Must have a valid MN Driver’s License.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

Knowledge of child development, mental health disorders and CTSS program required. Ability to teach and model emotional regulation, communication, social, problem-solving, and coping skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records preferred.
