Job Summary:
Physical Therapist Outpatient position in Washington, Iowa. This role involves evaluating and implementing physical therapy techniques for patients with neurological, burn/wound, musculoskeletal injuries, or other acute or chronic physical disabilities. The position is focused on promoting patient recovery, restoring function, and facilitating independence through comprehensive therapy assessments and treatment plans.

Job Details:

  • Evaluate and assesses patients' abilities and limitations.
  • Establish plan of treatment and goals based on referrals and evaluations of functional skills, joint mobility, gait, developmental reflexes, muscle strength, tone, coordination, sensation tests, and other measures to ensure rapid patient recovery.
  • Implement therapy according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques within the scope of physical therapy.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about evaluation findings, treatment goals, home programs, injury prevention, and related topics.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with physical therapy modalities and recommend adaptive equipment, including completing justification forms and arranging delivery.
  • Re-evaluate patients, assess progress, and make discharge recommendations.
  • Collaborate with other patient care team members to discuss progress, set treatment objectives, and integrate care activities.
  • Evaluate home or work environments and make ergonomic or physical barrier modification recommendations.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of aides, assistants, attendants, students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital meetings, conferences, continuing education, and other related activities.
  • Assist with departmental operations and supply management.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians and treat patients with respect and dignity.
  • Address psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Ensure patient charge accuracy and timely data entry.
  • Maintain infection control, safety, and ergonomic standards.
  • Promote process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
  • Display and promote organizational values and ensure regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed to practice physical therapy in the State of Iowa
  • Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) accredited college or university with a certificate, masters degree, or doctorate in physical therapy
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations professionally
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and regulated environment
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience or applicable training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in outpatient physical therapy settings
  • Knowledge of physical therapy modalities and equipment
  • Experience supervising staff, aides, or students
  • Ability to work with diverse patient populations of all ages
