Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) – Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat patients of all ages with speech, language, cognitive, swallowing, and oropharyngeal disorders.
  • Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and swallowing assessments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and monitor progress throughout therapy.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes, discharge summaries, and billing records.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, home exercise programs, and care recommendations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Support daily outpatient speech therapy operations, including scheduling and productivity tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with billing, coding, reimbursement, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental program development.
  • Supervise, mentor, and precept new staff members, students, and volunteers as needed.
  • Maintain therapy equipment and recommend supplies or equipment when necessary.
  • Follow all infection control, patient safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Experience performing speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing evaluations and treatments.
  • Excellent clinical documentation, communication, and patient education skills.
  • Knowledge of medical billing, coding, and reimbursement procedures.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.

Qualifications

  • Active Kentucky Speech-Language Pathology License.
  • BLS Certification or willingness to obtain certification after hire.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment and patient-care skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
