Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) – Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat patients of all ages with speech, language, cognitive, swallowing, and oropharyngeal disorders.
- Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and swallowing assessments.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and monitor progress throughout therapy.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes, discharge summaries, and billing records.
- Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, home exercise programs, and care recommendations.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Support daily outpatient speech therapy operations, including scheduling and productivity tracking.
- Ensure compliance with billing, coding, reimbursement, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental program development.
- Supervise, mentor, and precept new staff members, students, and volunteers as needed.
- Maintain therapy equipment and recommend supplies or equipment when necessary.
- Follow all infection control, patient safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Experience performing speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing evaluations and treatments.
- Excellent clinical documentation, communication, and patient education skills.
- Knowledge of medical billing, coding, and reimbursement procedures.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and basic computer applications.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
Qualifications
- Active Kentucky Speech-Language Pathology License.
- BLS Certification or willingness to obtain certification after hire.
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment and patient-care skills.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
