We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a fast-growing deep-tech company in Richmond, California. This role offers the chance to shape a scalable accounting organization within a venture-backed environment where finance plays a critical role in supporting growth. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, sound operational judgment, and the ability to establish structure in a dynamic setting.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the day-to-day accounting operation and create a dependable financial foundation that supports the company’s continued expansion.
• Develop and strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting procedures to improve accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Partner with executive leadership to deliver timely financial insights, support decision-making, and provide visibility into business performance.
• Oversee cash activity, short-term liquidity planning, and forecasting processes to help manage resources effectively.
• Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles and ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Evaluate and enhance systems, workflows, and ERP-related processes to build an efficient and scalable finance infrastructure.
• Support audits, investor reporting needs, and other external financial requirements with clear documentation and coordination.
• Help define the structure of the accounting team by mentoring staff and identifying future hiring needs as the organization grows.• CPA designation is required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership within a controllership or senior accounting capacity.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and core accounting operations.
• Demonstrated success managing cash flow, forecasting activities, and process improvement initiatives.
• Experience building or refining accounting infrastructure in a startup or venture-backed company environment is strongly preferred.
• Background in manufacturing, industrial, engineering, robotics, hardware technology, aerospace, or a related sector is preferred.
• Familiarity with ERP platforms and tools such as QuickBooks Online is valuable.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment and bring structure to evolving business needs.
