Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting operations for a leading long-term care organization. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on financial leader who enjoys managing accounting operations while contributing to strategic financial planning and analysis. The ideal candidate is looking to grow into a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role and will work closely with executive leadership on financial strategy, budgeting, reimbursement analysis, and organizational performance
The successful candidate will have a strong background in long-term care finance, a thorough understanding of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, and a proven ability to lead and develop an accounting team

Accounting & Financial Operatins
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, fixed assets, cash management, and month-end close
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and healthcare accounting standards
- Manage account reconciliations and oversee all balance sheet activies
- Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Prepare and present monthly financial reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), and variance analyses to senior leadership
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Support strategic initiatives by providing financial modeling and operational analysis
- Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies to improve financial performance
Reimbursement & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain a strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party reimbursement methodologies
- Collaborate with clinical and reimbursement teams to monitor reimbursement performance and optimize revenue
- Support cost reporting and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations
- Stay current on reimbursement changes affecting the long-term care industry
Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Establish priorities, streamline processes, and improve operational efficiencies
- Partner with department leaders to support sound financial decision-making across the organization
Strategic Growth
- work closely with the CFO and executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives
- Participate in acquisitions, system implementations, process improvements, and other organizational projects as needed
- Develop the leadership and financial expertise necessary to advance into a future CFO role
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, preferably within a long-term care, skilled nursing, or post-acute healthcare environments
- Demonstrated experience managing an accounting team
- Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, reimbursement methodologies, and healthcare financial reporting
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and month-end close processes
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial/accounting software

Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or MBA
- Experience with multi-facility healthcare organizations
- Experience with healthcare cost reporting and reimbursement analysis
- Proven success implementing process improvements and financial systems
