Job Description
We are looking for a community-minded Code Enforcement Officer to support the City’s efforts to maintain safe, well-kept, and compliant neighborhoods in California. This contract position combines fieldwork, public interaction, and administrative coordination to address code-related concerns across residential and commercial areas. The role requires sound judgment, clear communication, and a detail-oriented approach when working with residents, businesses, and internal partners.

Responsibilities:
• Review reported concerns and proactively assess potential violations related to zoning, property upkeep, public nuisance matters, health and safety standards, and animal-related issues.
• Perform on-site evaluations at homes and businesses to document conditions, determine compliance status, and identify necessary follow-up actions.
• Prepare and deliver formal enforcement documents, including warning notices, citations, and required corrective measures, in accordance with local regulations.
• Explain applicable municipal requirements to community members and guide property owners and businesses toward timely resolution and voluntary compliance.
• Maintain organized records of investigations through detailed notes, correspondence, photographs, and case updates within tracking systems.
• Work closely with municipal staff, legal representatives, contractors, and external agencies to support enforcement activities and case resolution.
• Contribute to nuisance abatement initiatives, animal control support efforts, and public-facing outreach activities that promote code awareness.
• Compile documentation for administrative hearings or related proceedings and present factual testimony when cases move forward for review.• Prior experience in code enforcement, inspections, municipal services, public safety, property management, or a closely related field is preferred.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply local codes, ordinances, and regulatory requirements with consistency and care.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive conversations, de-escalate conflict, and provide effective customer service.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using case tracking, records management, or similar administrative systems.
• Solid administrative capabilities, including data entry, documentation, record maintenance, and general office support.
• Comfortable handling phone-based and in-person interactions with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders in a courteous manner.
• Valid California Driver’s License is required.
