Field SMAW Welder

Bring your craft on the road. Based from our Louisville, KY hub, you’ll rotate between shop days and field assignments across various project sites. We cover your travel expenses, and a per diem is provided (full details discussed during the interview process). We’re prioritizing candidates who reside in Kentucky or within reasonable driving distance to Louisville.

A week in this role
  • Shop start: Check in at the Louisville facility, review plans, prep materials, and confirm tool readiness.
  • On-site execution: Travel to the assigned job site, interpret drawings and symbols, lay precise SMAW beads to spec, and keep work moving safely and efficiently.
  • Quality closeout: Inspect completed welds to align with industry and project standards, collaborate with project managers, and prepare for the next assignment.
What you’ll tackle
  • Perform SMAW (stick) welding on a range of materials and structures to project specifications.
  • Travel to and from job sites, delivering work on schedule and to quality expectations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot welding tools and equipment to keep them in top condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe, compliant work area.
  • Coordinate with teammates and project leaders to hit deadlines and quality targets.
  • Conduct visual quality checks on welds to verify compliance with industry standards.
What you’ll bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical training is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a stick welder; field/travel work preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of welding processes, materials, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and blueprints accurately.
  • Keen attention to detail with strong problem-solving capability.
  • Clear communication and effective teamwork habits.
  • Willingness to travel and adjust to flexible hours as projects require.
