Position Summary
The Buyer I is a core contributor within the Purchasing function, responsible for executing procurement activities with accuracy, discipline, and adherence to established controls. This role supports inventory availability, vendor performance, and cost management in a fast-paced HVAC and distribution environment. The Buyer I operates independently within defined procedures and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance purchasing efficiency and operational effectiveness.
Primary Responsibilities
- Execute purchasing transactions, including purchase order creation, vendor follow-ups, and delivery schedule monitoring.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of purchasing data within the ERP system; ensure timely closure of open purchase orders.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with vendors; manage routine communications and issue resolution.
- Coordinate with Warehouse and Accounts Payable to ensure proper matching of POs, receipts, and invoices.
- Support inventory replenishment activities based on demand patterns, lead times, and internal requirements.
- Knowledge of pricing structures, landed cost, and purchasing controls in day-to-day buying decisions.
- Utilize purchasing and inventory systems effectively (Sage experience preferred).
- Participate in the standardization and documentation of purchasing processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and operational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- 5-10 years of recent purchasing or procurement experience in a distribution, wholesale, or similar operating environment (HVAC experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of purchasing fundamentals, inventory flow, and supply chain best practices.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
- Experience working with ERP or purchasing systems; Sage or comparable systems preferred.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and vendor negotiation skills.
- Professional attitude with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
