Dermatology Veterinary Assistant

Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) is a growing multi-specialty and emergency veterinary practice in Portland, Maine. We re committed to creating a collaborative workplace where team members are supported, encouraged to grow, and empowered to provide exceptional patient care.

The Opportunity

We re seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Dermatology team and work closely with our board-certified dermatologist. You ll support patients and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up while collaborating with teams across the hospital.

What you ll do:

• Administer medications and immunotherapy under veterinary supervision
• Assist with diagnostics, including lab work, imaging, and CT
• Support appointments, patient flow, and scheduling
• Maintain accurate medical records, treatment notes, and drug logs
• Educate and communicate compassionately with clients
• Collaborate with Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Radiology, and other teams
• Provide patient-centered care and emotional support throughout treatment

What We re Looking For

• Veterinary Assistant experience required
• Specialty medicine and/or dermatology experience preferred
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
• Experience with EzyVet, SmartFlow, or similar software is a plus
• Positive attitude and commitment to compassionate care

Schedule & Compensation

• Full-time
• Monday Thursday, 7:30 a.m. 6 p.m.
  Schedule may shift to Tuesday Friday
• Some holidays required
• Starting pay: $25 $28/hour, based on experience
