Job Title: MachinistJob Description

This role is a CNC Machinist position in a dynamic job shop environment, focused on producing custom parts using vertical mills. You will take ownership of the complete machining process, from interpreting blueprints and setting up equipment to running production and performing quality inspections, while maintaining tight tolerances and contributing to a growing manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC vertical mills in a job shop environment to produce custom parts for various industries.
  • Perform 2–3 machine setups per day, including selecting and installing tooling, fixtures, and workholding as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Retrieve raw materials needed for each job and verify that material type and size match job requirements.
  • Run production parts from start to finish, ensuring parts meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform first article inspections on machined parts and document results as required.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Adjust machine feeds, speeds, and offsets as needed to optimize machining performance and part quality.
  • Maintain the ability to hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.001 inch consistently during production.
  • Conduct minor preventive maintenance on CNC machines to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor machine operations during production runs and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve machining or quality issues and improve processes.
  • Follow all safety procedures, shop policies, and quality standards while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on CNC machining experience, ideally with CNC mills in a production or job shop environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold tolerances of +/- 0.001 inch on machined parts.
  • Experience setting up and running CNC mills, including tooling and fixture setup.
  • Ability to perform first article inspections on parts produced.
  • Skilled use of precision inspection tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Familiarity with G and M codes for CNC machining.
  • Knowledge of machine setup procedures and tolerance requirements.
  • Ability to adjust machine feeds and speeds to optimize machining performance.
  • Capability to perform minor preventive maintenance on CNC machines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a job shop environment.
  • Experience machining large or heavy parts.
  • Familiarity with Okuma CNC machines.
  • Experience performing quality inspections and documenting results.
  • Comfort working with custom parts for industries such as agriculture, transportation, and shipping.

Work Environment

You will work in a job shop environment with approximately 40 team members, producing custom parts primarily for the agricultural, transportation, and shipping industries. The role is on the 2nd shift, typically from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 8:00 p.m., with training provided on the day shift for approximately 2–4 months to ensure a smooth transition. The shop uses CNC vertical mills and related equipment, including precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. The facility is actively growing, with recent expansions from two to four buildings and ongoing upgrades to the machine shop and fabrication areas. The dress code requires jeans, a T-shirt, and steel-toe footwear to support safety and comfort on the shop floor.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
