Yosemite Pathology (YP) is a private independent pathologist owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. YP provides comprehensive state of the art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in the Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties. YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic and non-oncologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist, Cytotechnologist, Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.Summary/ObjectiveThe Accessioning Laboratory Technician is responsible for the daily operations of the Accessioning department including, but not limited to, specimen receipt process, test order processing, sample processing, material returns and sample verifications. The Laboratory Technician works closely with various functional groups including, but not limited to Histology, Cytology, Molecular, Pathology Assistants, Analytical Laboratory, and Information Technology.Shift: Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 11:30 pmEssential FunctionsOrganize, sort, accession and process patient specimenResponsible for data entry and verifying all documentation of specimen received Complete all required written documentation legibly and within assigned timeframeOrganize work by sorting specimens, checking labeling, logging specimens into LIS systems in a timely mannerTroubleshoot problematic cases requiring investigation and correctionTriage cases to Pathologist Assistant and Cytology departments Complete case assignment reporting to Pathologists Specimen filing and disposal preparation Perform reagent rotation and disposal on tissue processors Perform bone marrow aspirate smearsMaintain inventory and stocking of department supplies including requisitions and kits for send outs.Follow up with verifications and communicate to ensure resolution in a timely manner Prioritize with a high emphasis on quality while working in a high-pressure data driven department in a fast-paced environment.Basic knowledge of biology and medical terminologyKnowledge of Cytology, Molecular and Histology accessioning, pre-accessioning and verification requirements for specimen, insurance, and additional testingJob Requirements and SkillsEducation and experience equivalent to a high school diploma required. Associates degree supplemented with one to three years of experience in a clinical setting preferred.Basic knowledge of biology and medical terminologyKnowledge of handling chemicals and biohazardous materialsSkill in communication and collaborating both orally and in writingSkill in effectively working with all levels of the organizationAbility to effectively troubleshoot and problem solve issuesAbility to work independently or in small or large groupsGeneral knowledge of good laboratory practices and aseptic techniqueCompensation and Benefits The compensation is $47,840 annually (non-exempt) paid semi-monthly on an eight (8) hour per day, forty (40) hour per week.
