The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Unit Manager provides leadership and oversight for the daily operations of an assigned nursing unit. This position ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and resident-centered care in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, facility policies, and professional standards of practice. The LPN Unit Manager serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and resource for nursing staff, while fostering a positive and collaborative environment that supports residents, families, and team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises nursing care provided by LPNs, Certified Nursing Assistants/State Tested Nursing Assistants and others for whom they are professionally responsible.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include:
    • Interviews, recommend hiring and trains LPNs, CNAs/STNAs.
    • Plans, assigns, and directs workflow.
    • Prepares work assignment sheets, taking into consideration resident safety, the educational preparation, experience, knowledge and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made.
    • Receive calls and find replacements for absent staff as needed
    • Transfers employees within units as needed.
    • Prepares performance evaluations for LPNs, CNAs/STNAs with the understanding that such evaluations impact tenure of probationary employees and wage increases of non-probationary employees.
    • Schedules and adjusts lunch and rest breaks.
    • Receives and resolves employee complaints.
    • Determines rotation of nurses within unit.
    • Monitors and corrects job performance of LPNs, CNAs/STNA
    • Disciplining employees up to and including recommendation of discharge.
    • Adequately supervises assigned LPN/CNA/STNA staff and assures that those staff are supervising employees assigned to them.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in long-term care or post-acute setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or management role preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nursing practice, infection control, and regulatory requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current state license to practice as a nurse.
  • Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
