Job Description
Firewatch Contracting, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned (SDVO) Small Business, is in search of a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) for a project at Army Corp of Engineers project in Memphis, TN. This position shall provide full-time on-site safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, training, and safety enforcement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the project Safety Plan and Activity Hazard Analysis for project
- Ensure compliance with project Accident Prevention Plan
- Act as onsite safety representative for the duration of the contract.
- Serve as the SSHO person of contact to conduct the required site and safety analysis and observations.
- Evaluate results and make recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections.
- Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings with attendee sign in sheets.
- Conduct weekly “all hands” safety briefing with attendee sign in sheets.
- Attach daily logs to the contractors’ daily project report.
- Ensure personal protective equipment meets applicable OSHA/EPA requirements and employees are trained on proper use
- Conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports.
- Development and Implementation of Corrective Action Plans
- Investigate and resolve health and safety deficiencies.
- Must have extensive experience in the field or in a related area.
- Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental and safety compliance fields.
- Good oral and written communication skills, reading/writing/grammar proficiency, good analytical ability, self-motivated, experienced problem solver, and moderate stress tolerance.
Qualifications:
- The SSHO is required to have a minimum of 5 years of construction industry safety experience on similar projects
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management is required
- USACE EM 385-1-1
- SSHO shall have Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification
- 30-hour OSHA construction safety class within the last 7 years
- Must be a United States Citizen
Levels of Supervision:
- Works under the Project Superintendent
- Performs assignments with minimal supervision; works independently.
