Superintendent manages a all sub contractors to ensure company-wide safety, quality, and financial alignment.

A General Contractor (GC) Superintendent is the primary on-site leader responsible for the daily execution of a construction project. Operating as the direct representative of the General Contractor, this role focuses heavily on managing subcontractors, coordinating trade schedules, and enforcing site safety to deliver the project on time and within budget.

Job Summary

The General Contractor Superintendent directs all day-to-day field operations on a specific construction site. This role involves managing diverse trade crews, sequencing daily tasks, and verifying that all work aligns precisely with architectural blueprints and contractual agreements. The ideal candidate blends deep trade knowledge with strong leadership skills to keep crews motivated, collaborative, and safe.

Core Responsibilities

• Subcontractor Management: Coordinate and schedule multiple specialty trade subcontractors to optimize daily site workflow and avoid spatial conflicts.
• Schedule Execution: Maintain and update the look-ahead schedules (e.g., 3-week schedules) to ensure critical path milestones are met.
• Safety Enforcement: Enforce 100% compliance with OSHA standards and company health policies through daily site walks and toolbox talks.
• Quality Assurance: Inspect all ongoing work to catch installation errors early, verify compliance with project specifications, and manage the punch list process.
• PM Collaboration: Partner with the project manager to review material submittals, manage RFIs (Requests for Information), and document change orders.
• Daily Documentation: Author detailed daily construction reports logging weather conditions, headcount, active equipment, delays, and site visitors.
• Inspections & Permitting: Coordinate with local building inspectors, utility companies, and third-party testing agencies to secure necessary code approvals.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of commercial, industrial, or multi-family residential construction experience, with several years in a leadership.
• Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour construction certification is mandatory. First Aid/CPR certification is highly preferred.
• Technical Skills: Expert ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints, structural drawings, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) schematics.
• Software: Experience using mobile field software like Procore, PlanGrid, or Fieldwire to log data and view plans on-site.
• Leadership Traits: Strong verbal communication skills, decisive problem-solving abilities, and a firm approach to enforcing subcontractor accountability.

Working Conditions

• Environment: Based full-time out of an on-site job trailer, requiring constant exposure to outdoor weather, loud noises, and active construction hazards.
• Physical Demands: Frequent walking across uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and navigating multi-story structures under construction.
