Job Description
We are currently seeking a Scientist to join a leading research laboratory in San Antonio. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career chemist looking to gain hands-on experience with advanced analytical instrumentation in a fast-paced research environment.
The selected candidate will perform analytical testing, assist with chemical experiments, operate chromatographic instrumentation, and support research scientists on a variety of laboratory projects. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to work independently after training.
Responsibilities
- Perform and review analytical testing using chromatographic methods.
- Operate gas chromatographs (GC), ion chromatographs (IC), and automatic switching valves.
- Perform instrument calibration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
- Prepare laboratory samples using balances, pipettes, syringes, and other analytical equipment.
- Interpret analytical data and document test results accurately.
- Assist with chemical experiments and laboratory research activities.
- Follow written and verbal laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and testing documentation.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technical staff to support research projects.
- Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry required.
- Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience required.
- Strong background in chemistry, mathematics, and scientific principles.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and good laboratory practices.
- Experience with gas chromatography, ion chromatography, or wet chemistry is preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently after training in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Flexibility to work first or second shift, including occasional weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working with chemicals in laboratory and plant-like environments.
- Ability to safely change compressed gas cylinders.
- Occasional outdoor work may be required.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toed safety shoes.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver's License with a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.
- Steel-toed safety shoes required.
- Must be eligible to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends as business needs require.
