Job Title: Plumbing Apprentice
18-25/hr
Job Description
This role supports the installation team on commercial fire protection projects by preparing materials, assisting crews across multiple job sites, and working with a variety of piping systems and related equipment. You will contribute directly to new construction projects by ensuring all pipe, fittings, and components are ready, accurate, and safely prepared for installation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and stage materials for all installation crews across multiple job sites, ensuring the correct pipe, fittings, valves, hangers, heads, and sleeves are available and ready for use.
- Support the install team on commercial construction projects by assisting with layout, preparation, and handling of piping systems and related components.
- Read and interpret blueprints to understand piping layouts, material requirements, and installation details.
- Operate and maintain a Rigid 300 machine to thread and groove pipe when needed, following safety and quality standards.
- Use band saws and other cutting tools to cut, bend, and modify pipe and related materials to required specifications.
- Handle, move, and organize pipe, fittings, and equipment on active construction sites, maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
- Work closely with plumbers, pipefitters, and sprinkler fitters to support installation of fire protection and sprinkler systems.
- Assist with basic construction tasks related to piping systems, including measuring, marking, and preparing pipe runs.
- Follow all site safety procedures and guidelines while working in active, rough construction environments.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure projects stay on schedule and meet quality expectations.
Essential Skills
- Basic understanding of pipe, fittings, valves, hangers, heads, and sleeves used in piping and fire protection systems.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong hands-on skills in a construction or trade environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Experience operating a Rigid 300 machine for threading and grooving pipe.
- Experience using band saws and related cutting tools for pipe and material preparation.
- Experience in plumbing, pipefitting, construction, or sprinkler fitting work.
- Comfort working on commercial construction job sites in a dirty, rough environment.
- Ability to work safely and follow safety procedures on active job sites.

Work Environment
You will work primarily on commercial job sites focused on new construction, including hotels, distribution warehouses, corporate office buildings, and retail spaces. The environment is active, dirty, and rough, typical of large construction projects, and involves handling pipe, fittings, and equipment in the field. Projects may include installation, service, and inspection of various fire protection systems such as wet and dry pipe automatic sprinkler systems, preaction and deluge systems, anti-freeze and foam water spray systems, clean agent systems, diesel and electric fire pumps, backflow prevention devices, and portable fire extinguishers. Work involves using tools such as Rigid 300 threading machines and band saws, and requires consistent adherence to safety practices on busy construction sites.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
