Location: New Hartford, NY / New York Mills, NY
Starting Pay: $23.00 per hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with overtime as needed
A growing structural steel manufacturer is seeking a dependable and skilled Structural Welder / Machine Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for fabricating, fitting, welding, and repairing heavy structural steel while operating fabrication equipment in a safe and efficient production environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) and a commitment to producing high-quality work that meets company and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate, fit, and weld heavy structural steel components.
- Perform Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) to meet quality and structural specifications.
- Produce high-quality welds with proper size, placement, and appearance.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, weld symbols, and production specifications.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including cut-off saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, punches, grinders, plasma cutters, torches, and wire-feed welding machines.
- Perform routine machine inspections and basic maintenance to ensure proper operation.
- Verify proper material selection, including size, length, and thickness.
- Ensure all machine safety devices are in place and functioning.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following OSHA safety requirements and wearing required PPE.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and quality expectations.
Qualifications
- Welding experience is required.
- Experience with Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) is required.
- AWS Structural Welding Certification is preferred.
- Experience with heavy structural steel fabrication and fitting is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 50+ pounds.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the company.
