We are representing an established engineering and technical services organization supporting complex, large-scale government facilities and infrastructure projects. The company offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced Professional Engineers and designers on challenging mechanical engineering projects involving existing facilities and critical building systems.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a current Professional Engineer (PE) License registered in the State of Texas.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of mechanical engineering and MEP design experience, particularly with existing facilities and building systems.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical systems, managing assigned projects, coordinating with project managers and other engineering professionals, and developing technical plans and drawings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned mechanical engineering projects and coordinate with project stakeholders.
  • Design and analyze mechanical systems for existing facilities.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations and equipment sizing.
  • Design and layout HVAC systems, including:
    • AHUs
    • Chillers
    • Cooling towers
    • VAV systems
    • Ductwork
    • Controls
  • Design and coordinate plumbing and piping systems.
  • Work with chilled water, heating water, steam, condensate, gas, compressed air, vacuum, laboratory gases, and fire protection systems.
  • Conduct job walks and evaluate existing mechanical systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation and mechanical plans.
  • Prepare mechanical drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Apply applicable local and national codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with customers, contractors, vendors, project managers, and engineering teams.
  • Ensure projects are completed accurately, safely, and within established deadlines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License registered in Texas – REQUIRED.
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering/design experience.
  • Strong experience with mechanical design principles and practices for existing facilities/buildings.
  • Knowledge of applicable local and national codes and standards.
  • Experience preparing detailed engineering drawings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Technical Skills

Experience with CAD and engineering software such as:

  • AutoCAD
  • SolidWorks
  • Pro/Engineer
  • HAP
  • TRACE
  • Elite
Additional Requirements
  • Must be willing to work onsite when required.
  • Current hybrid work arrangement is subject to change based on project/client requirements.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changes in the work schedule and work location.
  • Must be able to obtain required site access/badging.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and climb ladders when required.

U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to site-access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working at a NASA site or other government installation is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with government facilities is a plus.
  • Experience with existing facility infrastructure and building systems is strongly preferred.
