The RN Staff Development Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating orientation, staff education and development programs to ensure the delivery of high-quality resident care in compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations. The RN Staff Development Coordinator supports quality outcomes, promotes evidence-based practice, and partners with leadership to foster a culture of safety, learning, and accountability.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses the competencies and training of nursing care provided by Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified/State Tested Nursing Assistants.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include:
    • Interviews, recommends hires, and trains LPNs and Certified/State Tested Nursing Assistants.
    • Plans, assigns, and directs work.
    • Prepares work assignment sheets, taking into consideration Resident safety, the educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made.
    • May receive calls and find replacements or absent staff.
    • Transfers employees among units as needed.
    • Prepares performance evaluations with the understanding that such evaluations impact tenure of probationary employees and wage increases of non-probationary employees.
    • Disciplines employees up to and including discharge.
    • Adequately supervises assigned staff and assures that those staff are supervising employees assigned to them.
    • Approves the correction of errors in timecards or other timekeeping records.
    • Receives and resolves employee complaints.
    • Determines rotation of employees within the facility.
    • Monitors and corrects job performance of employees.
      • Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A registered nurse with management or supervisor experience in long-term care or geriatric nursing.
  • Prior experience in staff development, education, or leadership preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, state requirements, and long-term care standards.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current state license to practice as a registered nurse.
  • Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of enrollment.
