Job Description
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
To drive a commercial vehicle. To transport clean linen carts from plant facilities (Denver and/or Pueblo HCL facilities) to assigned facilities. To retrieve pre-bagged soiled linen and containers from assigned facilities back to plant facilities.
To provide customer service in person to all assigned facilities.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Based on HCL policies and procedures, the essential job functions of this job include:
• Drive a commercial vehicle.
• Loads and secures clean linen carts/baskets onto truck for transit.
• Unloads clean linen carts/baskets at and into designated areas at assigned facilities.
• Checks all assigned facilities designated soiled holding areas for soil linen/carts/baskets in preparation of return of such to plant facilities.
• Checks all assigned facilities appropriate aisles, rooms hallways for empty carts/baskets in preparation of return of such to plant facilities.
• Reports all accidents immediately to Driver Supervisor and/or Driver Manager.
• Loads and secures soil and empty linen/carts/baskets onto truck for transit, up to truck maximum capacity.
• Unloads soiled and empty linen/carts/baskets upon arrival at facility.
• Unloads “Specialty Linen” and/or “Return Linen” to appropriate designated area along with corresponding paperwork. i.e. Customer Department and/or Shipping Department.
• Relocates empty truck to the facility’s clean dock.
• Prepares truck for next delivery of clean linen carts/baskets by sweeping out on the soil deck and spraying the interior of the truck (box/trailer). Maintains a clean truck at all times.
• Prepares truck and documentation for clean linen transit 15 minutes prior to pre-set departure schedule/route. Preparation includes verifying shipment against manifest prepared by shipper; obtaining approval of complete shipment from shipper prior to departure; manifest initialed by shipper and completed by driver prior to departing from facility; notifying Driver Supervisor and/or Manager of departure of facility; and when appropriate warming of the truck.
• Assists the Shipping Department at dock, shipping areas and cart make-up areas while waiting for the completion of cart route order and/or any additional deliveries assigned by Driver Supervisor and/or Driver Manager.
• Transports clean, soiled and empty carts/baskets following pre-set schedule and route.
• Fuels truck at approved locations as necessary.
• Informs Driver Supervisor and/or Driver Manager of any problems with trucks and/or routes.
• Performs daily truck inspection and provides Driver Supervisor the daily report.
• Follows HCL attendance guidelines.
• Performs related duties as assigned or necessary, such as unexpected special deliveries or soiled linen picked up to/from other assigned facilities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Driving Record: No more than one (1) violation per year for the three (3) years immediately preceding the date of employment application. Violations that are not acceptable include but are not limited to: driving under the influence, careless driving, collisions, speeding violations for speed exceeding 20 MPH over the posted limit. Cannot have more than six (6) points per year.
• Driving Ability: Must demonstrate safe, proper driving techniques as tested and measured by Ryder Road Test and Certification.
• Must pass DOT physical, drug screening test and other regulatory guidelines.
• Must have current Colorado Class A license or valid Colorado regular driver’s license.
• Must, after proper training, be able to demonstrate skills in performing assigned duties.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this job.
• Must be able to pull 10-20 pounds.
• Must be able to push carts up to/over 100 plus pounds. (utilizing the buddy system)
• Must be able to move rolling carts up to 500 pounds.
• Must be able to lift weights up to 40 pounds.
• Required to twist repeatedly.
• Must be able to bend constantly. (no lifting table)
• Must be able to reach and grip repeatedly.
• Must be able to stand/drive entire shift (8-or 10-hours shift) day/night. (70-75% loading/unloading, 30-25% driving)
