Job description:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Team Leader Relief / Maintenance Mechanic to support production operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and productive operation of a manufacturing line while providing leadership, technical expertise, troubleshooting, maintenance support, and operational guidance to team members.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who can effectively balance equipment maintenance responsibilities with production leadership duties.
Key Responsibilities Production & Equipment Operations
- Operate manufacturing equipment according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Create, update, and maintain operational documentation as needed.
- Perform equipment adjustments to ensure efficient operation throughout the production process.
- Conduct product changeovers, including modifications to containers, fillers, cappers, conveyors, rails, case packers, and palletizing equipment.
- Assist in managing product flow and production transitions during scheduled changeovers.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform online troubleshooting and equipment repairs during production.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and make necessary adjustments to minimize downtime.
- Complete preventative maintenance activities, including cleaning, inspection, and lubrication.
- Repair equipment throughout the production and material handling process.
- Document equipment issues, repairs, and adjustments in maintenance logs.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct quality control checks and work with operators to correct deficiencies.
- Participate in root cause analysis and downtime investigations.
- Develop corrective action plans to improve equipment reliability and line performance.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives and focused improvement events.
Team Leadership
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to production team members.
- Assist in training new and existing operators on equipment operation and line procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
- Lead by example while supporting daily operational goals.
- Collaborate effectively with production, maintenance, quality, and materials teams.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and sanitation requirements.
- Support a safe and organized work environment.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to production and maintenance activities.
QualificationsRequired
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience operating manufacturing or production equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform equipment adjustments and repairs.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence team performance.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- Experience in food manufacturing, packaging, or consumer goods production.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and root cause analysis techniques.
