Paralegal - Legal Assistant
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support a busy Defense Personal Injury practice. The successful candidate will assist attorneys with case management from intake through resolution, prepare and file legal documents, coordinate discovery, and help with litigation preparation. This role requires strong organizational skills, clear client communication, familiarity with e-filing systems, and hands-on experience in personal injury matters. Experience with premises liability and construction defect cases is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage case files for personal injury matters including intake, documentation, and organization of medical records, bills, and evidence
- Draft pleadings, complaints, answers, motions, demand letters, settlement agreements, and other legal correspondence
- Prepare and e-file court documents using local and statewide e-filing systems; ensure compliance with court rules and filing deadlines
- Coordinate discovery: prepare and serve interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions, subpoenas, and responses
- Communicate with clients, medical providers, insurance adjusters, opposing counsel, and experts to obtain records, manage expectations, and provide case updates
- Assist attorneys with litigation preparation including witness preparation, exhibit lists, trial binders, chronology of events, and deposition summaries
- Schedule and calendar hearings, depositions, inspections, and trial dates; monitor statutes of limitation and key deadlines
- Conduct factual and legal research to support case strategy and drafting
- Prepare settlement calculations, lien resolution materials, and closing packages
- Maintain accurate timekeeping, billing records, and case management database entries
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of hands on experience in a personal injury practice or related litigation environment
- College degree or Paralegal Certificate
- Proven experience with personal injury matters; familiarity with premises liability and construction defect claims preferred
- Experience drafting pleadings, discovery requests, correspondence, and settlement documents
- Proficiency with e-filing systems, court rules, and document management software
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple files, and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and professional client interaction
- Competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software; experience with litigation support tools is a plus
- Knowledge of medical records, billing practices, and liens in personal injury contexts
- Knows how to bill clients
