Job Title: Machinist – Night ShiftJob Description

This night-shift machinist role focuses on independently setting up and operating machining equipment to produce complex parts with high accuracy and minimal quality issues. You will read advanced blueprints, verify and load tooling, write and edit simple programs, and use a wide range of measurement devices to ensure precision. The role also involves training other employees, contributing to continuous improvement, and actively participating in goal setting and performance reviews while maintaining strong safety and productivity standards throughout the shift.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret advanced blueprints to plan and execute machining operations accurately.
  • Verify and load tooling, enter tool data correctly, and ensure tools are prepared for production.
  • Create complex part setups using all available tools, fixtures, and devices to optimize machining processes.
  • Read, understand, write, and edit simple CNC programs to support efficient and accurate production.
  • Operate machining equipment with a solid understanding of machine controls and axis movement.
  • Apply good knowledge of feed rates and spindle speeds to achieve optimal cutting performance and part quality.
  • Run new parts that may be unfamiliar to you or the organization, ensuring accuracy and consistency from the start.
  • Use measurement devices fluently, including calipers and micrometers, to inspect and verify part dimensions.
  • Perform thorough inspections of parts and document results to maintain minimal quality issues.
  • Recognize, document, and analyze patterns in processes and problems to support effective troubleshooting and improvement.
  • Effectively train and mentor employees on machining practices, safety, and quality standards.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the team and department, following established safety procedures.
  • Understand and implement 5S principles as part of continuous improvement in the work area.
  • Follow instructions, established routines, and processes to achieve consistent productivity and quality.
  • Evaluate procedures and suggest or implement refinements to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Work Environment

The workplace emphasizes safety and 5S organization, with established routines and processes designed to support efficiency, cleanliness, and continuous improvement. The setting is production-focused, requiring you to remain present and engaged throughout the shift, collaborating closely with team members in a structured yet supportive environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sturgis, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $32.00/hr.
