Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Systems Administrator

Location: Washington, DC (Onsite, 5 days per week)

Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and/or maintain a Public Trust clearance

Overview

We are seeking a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Systems Administrator to support and maintain enterprise Linux infrastructure in a highly secure environment. This role is responsible for the administration, maintenance, patching, automation, and optimization of RHEL servers across virtualized platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure system reliability, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of RHEL servers, including deployment, configuration, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Deploy and maintain RHEL systems within VMware-based virtual environments.
  • Utilize Red Hat Satellite to manage software repositories, content views, lifecycle environments, and enterprise patching operations.
  • Implement system and software updates while ensuring security and compliance requirements are met.
  • Configure and maintain users, groups, permissions, and access controls.
  • Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Identify and resolve platform and application issues while providing daily operational support.
  • Develop, test, and maintain automation solutions using Bash, Python, Ansible, and other scripting tools.
  • Improve operational efficiency through automation of routine administrative tasks and deployment processes.
  • Collaborate with security teams to support system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and patch compliance initiatives.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, configurations, and knowledge base articles.
  • Provide regular status updates on projects, patching activities, and overall system health.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams to support deployments and infrastructure initiatives.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 4+ years of experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems in enterprise environments.
  • Experience managing RHEL server deployments, configuration, patching, and maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience with Red Hat Satellite and Ansible.
  • Experience developing automation scripts using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience managing user accounts, group administration, and access controls.
  • Knowledge of system hardening, vulnerability management, patching strategies, and firewall configuration.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and log analysis skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), or other Red Hat certifications.
  • Experience automating STIG compliance and configuration management activities.
  • Experience supporting cloud environments such as AWS and/or Azure.
  • Familiarity with Department of Justice (DOJ) environments.
  • Experience supporting highly regulated or security-focused environments.
