Job Description

R&D Sourcing Manager

Overview & Position Details

  • Title: R&D Sourcing Manager (Clinical Contracts Associate II / Vendor Outsourcing Department)
  • Location: Hybrid (3 days per week onsite) — Foster City, CA (Preferred) or Parsippany, NJ (07054)
  • Duration/Type: 12+ Month Contract
  • Compensation: $60.76 – $70.76 / hour

Role Scope

This role sits within the Vendor Outsourcing department, focusing primarily on development-side R&D support rather than a single specific clinical study. You will support global Phase I–IV clinical trials across multiple clinical divisions as a whole.

The focus is heavily weighted toward contracting and vendor execution, covering:

  • Master Services Agreements (MSAs)
  • Work Orders / Statements of Work (SOWs)
  • Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDAs)
  • RFIs and RFPs (Request for Information/Proposals)
  • Ancillary clinical services, systems, software, FSP (Functional Service Provider), professional services, and non-HCP consulting.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Contracting Lifecycle: Manage vendor selection, evaluation, RFI/RFP processes, contract negotiation, change order management, and agreement closeout.
  • Negotiation & Legal Terms: Quickly review contracts, negotiate business terms, and support the legal team in negotiating legal frameworks and mitigating risk.
  • Database & Cataloging: Maintain accurate tracking of terms and conditions in internal contract databases and systems.
  • Stakeholder Cross-Collaboration: Act as a central communication hub working with Clinical Operations, Finance, Legal, Business Conduct, Vendor Management, and Payments.

Candidate Requirements (Must-Haves)

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) is strictly required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in sourcing, procurement, and heavy contracting (biotech, pharma, or life sciences industry experience is a major plus).
  • Readiness: Ability to hit the ground running with minimal foundational training on contracting processes.
  • Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, independent multi-tasking abilities, and experience managing concurrent, competing negotiations.

Top 3 Evaluation Criteria

  1. Substantial Contracting Experience: Proven capability handling complex MSAs, SOWs, and related vendor agreements.
  2. Industry Background: Direct or adjacent experience in the bio/pharma or life sciences sectors.
  3. Negotiation & Risk Management: Ability to drive negotiations smoothly and articulate real-world examples of risk mitigation rather than just theoretical approaches.
