Gas Tungsten Arc Welder, Casting Restoration & Production

Where: LaPorte, IN | Who: Howmet Aerospace

Imagine this

You’re handed a complex casting that must meet Class A standards. You assess alloy, select the correct wire designation and size, dial in the AC/DC power source, and set gas flow for both your torch and copper backups. Your GTAW beads pass FPI and X-Ray acceptance, and your blend work delivers a seamless finish. That’s the caliber of work you’ll do here—every shift.

Growth path and hours
  • Ramp-up: Monday–Friday training on 1st shift (6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) for up to six months.
  • Deployment: Transition to 2nd shift (2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.) or 3rd shift (10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.) after training.
Compensation
  • Start at $27.07/hour
  • Move to $28.39/hour after 12 months
Your responsibilities
  • Perform TIG/GTAW repair and production welding on castings to Class A requirements with FPI and X-Ray acceptance.
  • Take on occasional maintenance and fixture welding across various alloys, including aluminum.
  • Fabricate copper backups and apply them to support weld quality.
  • Operate the full range of AC/DC power source controls and weld torch components.
  • Determine the correct weld wire alloy designation and wire size based on job needs.
  • Establish power source parameters and set shielding gas flow for torch and backups.
  • Blend welds to final condition on both repair and production work.
  • When functioning as a weld blender, prepare welds as needed.
  • When functioning as a weld blender, carry out finishing, rework, and metal cleaning associated with a Metal Cell Operator (MCO) as required.
What you bring Required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years of TIG welding experience
Preferred
  • Vocational training in welding
  • Manual GTAW proficiency using a remote foot control
