Location: La Crosse, VA

A day in this role

You clock in to a well-organized shop in La Crosse and head to your bay. Today’s build includes beams, joists, and a set of stiffeners. You study the blueprint, mark your layout, pull your tape, and confirm decimal measurements before you bring components together. You check the fit-up, confirm positioning on connection plates and supporting brackets, and only then hand the assembly off for welding—confident it meets spec. Throughout the day, you keep your area clean, follow safety and quality procedures, and take pride in precise work that becomes part of something bigger.

What you’ll handle

• Fit and assemble structural steel components: beams, joists, webbing, connection plates, stiffeners, and supporting brackets.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout instructions.
• Measure accurately with a tape measure and work confidently with decimal measurements.
• Inspect workpieces to verify correct fit-up and quality prior to welding.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
• Follow all company safety and quality procedures.

What you bring

• Ability to pass a 3/8" Flat Weld Test.
• Ability to pass a Vertical Tack Test.
• Ability to pass a Single Bead Vertical Test.
• Blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
• Strong tape-measure skills and comfort with decimal measurements.
• Previous structural steel fitting experience preferred.
