Description:
The Maintenance Mechanic handles inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment. The position also requires completion and retention of required maintenance documentation and regular communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and/or lead person about equipment status and repair needs.
Requirements:Duties and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, including loaders, shears, grapples, skid steers, forklifts, and tractors/trailers. Use of 5-Y preferred.
- Perform daily preventive maintenance and routine equipment inspections as needed.
- Follow company dress code requirements and wear always needed personal protective equipment.
- Work independently with limited supervision while meeting performance and safety expectations.
- Prepare and keep required documentation, including work orders, purchase order requests, and tool orders and daily work log.
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Perform welding, grinding, and weld setup in support of maintenance and repair activities.
- Set up, dismantle, and reassemble machinery as needed for maintenance and repair.
- Support and maintain housekeeping standards set forth by management within the work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Skills
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across maintenance, production, scale, shipping, and plant leadership teams.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting capability in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems in a scrap processing, industrial, or heavy-equipment environment.
- Possess minimum required tools from provided list.
- Use of proper PPE as required per job function.
- Experience with welding and grinding and fabricating parts.
- Knowledge of conveying systems, hydraulic systems, PLCs.
- Availability to work overtime, weekends, as business needs require.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED needed; trade school training preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in maintenance mechanic work.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical fundamentals, and industrial troubleshooting required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and work in active maintenance environments for extended periods.
- Ability to climb on and around mobile and stationary equipment as needed to inspect, troubleshoot, and support repairs.
- Ability to work safely in scrap recycling and industrial yard conditions, including uneven surfaces, outdoor exposure, and changing weather conditions.
