General DescriptionSupport daily repair and manufacturing operations for incoming workload for C-5, C-17, C-130, F-15, J-STARS, RQ-4, Global Hawk and other workload as required. Mixed position performing duties of a sheet metal mechanic and aircraft mechanicDutiesEvaluate structural damage to aircraft sheet metal systems or items to be manufactured, repaired, or modifiedExamine aircraft and metal structures to locate cracks, breaks, holes, bulges, etc.Determine type and extent of repairs needed to restore original strength to componentsPlan and layout work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, work orders, etc. Develop patterns and layout, cut form, join, assemble, and install metal parts, items, and assembliesUse mathematics to determine curves, angles and pitchWork with various kinds of metal including magnesium, honeycomb material, galvanized and black iron, aluminum and aluminum alloys, etc.Make repairs by manufacturing new parts and reinforcing, patching and replacing defective parts. Other duties as assignedEducation/Experience RequirementsHigh School Diploma or equivalentMust have at least four years of recent verifiable experience Knowledge of the characteristics and properties of metals used in the tradeKnowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assembliesKnowledge in use of basic hand and power tools such as hammer, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, box and pan brakes, rotary machines, welding equipment, etc.Experience using measuring instruments such as protractors, calipers, snap ring, screw pitch gauges, and other hand measurement devicesExperience in use of shop mathematics and principlesMust be a US CitizenMust be able to pass a background check, which could include a criminal history and credit check for access to Government facilities.Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance within nine (9) months of employee's start date.We maintain a drug-free workplace and perform post offer, pre-employment substance abuse testing.Physical RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
