Job Summary

The Traffic Control Flagger / Field Technician supports safe and efficient traffic control operations on active job sites. Under the direction of a Crew Leader, Field Supervisor, or Operations Manager, this position assists with flagging, traffic control device installation, lane closures, detours, and temporary work-zone setups in accordance with company procedures, project requirements, and applicable NCDOT standards.

Prior traffic control experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with experience in construction, utility work, outdoor labor, landscaping, warehouse or manufacturing operations, delivery, or other safety-focused physical work environments are encouraged to apply.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow directions from the Operations Manager, Supervisor, or Crew Leader regarding daily job assignments and worksite procedures.

  • Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices including signs, cones, barrels, and barricades according to traffic control plans and applicable standards.

  • Perform flagging operations and safely control the movement of vehicles through active work zones.

  • Communicate clearly with motorists and crew members using approved hand signals, signs, and two-way radios.

  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of lane closures, detours, and temporary traffic patterns.

  • Learn to read and follow traffic control plans, project drawings, and detour routing instructions.

  • Maintain awareness of traffic movement and surrounding conditions and promptly report unsafe conditions.

  • Provide motorists with appropriate work-zone or detour guidance when required.

  • Keep traffic control equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition.

  • Drive company vehicles to and from job sites when authorized and appropriately licensed.

  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance and provide courteous service while representing the company.

  • Support crew members and perform additional duties as needed to maintain safe and efficient work-zone operations.

Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time based on operational and project needs.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry 50+ lbs.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and remain physically active throughout the shift.

  • Comfortable working near live traffic and in active roadway environments.

  • Ability to remain alert and attentive while performing safety-sensitive duties.



Required Qualifications
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.

  • Reliable transportation as required for assigned work locations.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions and work under field leadership.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew.

  • Willingness to travel within the assigned region for daily job assignments.

  • Ability and willingness to wear required PPE, including work boots, hard hat, and high-visibility safety vest.

  • Ability to learn and consistently follow traffic control procedures, work-zone safety requirements, and company safety policies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous traffic control, construction, utility, roadway, landscaping, outdoor labor, or similar field experience.

  • Familiarity with NCDOT specifications or MUTCD guidelines.

  • Current Flagger/Traffic Control certification, including ATSSA or equivalent.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.



Compensation details: 15-17 Hourly Wage
