Job Description:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Family and Child Development, Counseling, Gerontology, Guidance and Counseling, or a related human services field; or a Bachelor's degree in any field with 3–5 years of related human services experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of social work principles, practices, and ethics.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing Child Protective Services and human service programs.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, counseling methods, and support services for children and families.
  • Experience with case management principles, service planning, and coordinating community resources.
  • Ability to assess child safety, family functioning, and risk factors.
  • Strong interviewing, communication, documentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, community partners, schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and court personnel.
  • Proficiency in electronic case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases while meeting required deadlines and documentation standards.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the service area to conduct field visits.

Detailed Job Responsibilities

  • Investigate reports of suspected child abuse and neglect through family assessments and investigations.
  • Conduct follow-up visits to children and families in homes, hospitals, schools, childcare facilities, foster homes, and other community locations.
  • Interview children, parents, guardians, relatives, medical personnel, educators, law enforcement officers, and other collateral contacts to gather information and assess safety.
  • Evaluate family situations to determine immediate and ongoing safety risks and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children by implementing safety plans and, when necessary, participating in the removal of children in accordance with agency policies and legal requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor case plans designed to improve family functioning and achieve permanency goals.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update detailed case documentation, investigative reports, assessments, court reports, and service plans in the agency's electronic case management system.
  • Participate in Family Partnership Meetings, multidisciplinary staffing meetings, court proceedings, and other case conferences.
  • Coordinate services and referrals to community agencies for counseling, housing, financial assistance, substance abuse treatment, parenting education, domestic violence services, and other supportive programs.
  • Complete courtesy requests and coordinate services with other jurisdictions as assigned.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries received by telephone, email, or in person while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement agencies, attorneys, courts, and community organizations to ensure coordinated service delivery.
  • Monitor compliance with court orders, safety plans, and service agreements and document client progress.
  • Maintain compliance with all agency policies, Child Protective Services regulations, confidentiality requirements, and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Prioritize and manage a high-volume caseload while meeting statutory deadlines and agency performance standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Family Services Division.
