Job Title: Material Handler
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Job Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, moving, and shipping materials, supplies, and finished products within the warehouse or production facility. This role involves operating material handling equipment, verifying inventory accuracy, loading and unloading shipments, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Stocking
- Unload incoming freight, inspect packages for damage, and verify shipment contents against purchase orders or packing slips.
- Record incoming inventory in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) or inventory tracking software.
- Transport materials from receiving docks to designated storage, bin locations, or production areas.
Order Preparation & Logistics
- Pick, pack, and prepare finished goods or raw materials for shipment or internal production assembly according to work orders.
- Safely operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, order pickers, and hand trucks.
- Stage outgoing orders at shipping docks and assist in loading transport vehicles.
Inventory Control & Safety
- Conduct routine cycle counts and assist with full physical inventory audits.
- Identify and report inventory discrepancies, damaged goods, or defective materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace adhering to OSHA guidelines and company safety policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment preferred.
- Certifications: Forklift Operator certification (or willingness to obtain certification upon hire).
- Technical Skills:
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with barcode scanners / RF guns.
- Experience with inventory systems or ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) is a plus.
