Position Summary
Penmac Staffing is seeking dependable and safety-minded Heavy Equipment Operators for a local metal recycling and scrap yard facility. This position is responsible for operating industrial equipment to safely move, sort, load, and unload scrap metal materials while supporting daily yard operations. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Essential Job Duties
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently throughout the scrap yard.
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, containers, and customer vehicles.
- Transport scrap metal and recyclable materials to designated processing and storage areas.
- Sort and stage ferrous and non-ferrous metals according to company standards.
- Conduct pre-shift equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns.
- Maintain accurate material handling procedures and follow yard traffic patterns.
- Assist with inventory organization and shipment preparation.
- Keep work areas clean and free of hazards.
- Follow all safety regulations, company policies, and required PPE standards.
- Work closely with supervisors and team members to ensure efficient yard operations.
Qualifications
- Previous heavy equipment operating experience required.
- Experience in a scrapyard, recycling facility, warehouse, construction, or industrial setting preferred.
- Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Reliable attendance and dependable work history.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
This position is located in an active outdoor metal recycling and scrap yard. Employees will be exposed to loud noise, heavy equipment, dust, dirt, and changing weather conditions. Safety awareness and adherence to all safety protocols are essential.
Pay & Schedule
- Starting Pay: $20.00 per hour
- Full-time position
- Overtime opportunities may be available
