Job Description

Job Description
Seed Treatment Systems Operator (Seed Corn)

Location: Grand Ridge, IL (on-site)

Industry: Agriculture — seed corn production & seed treatment

Job Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time

Pay: $19–$22/hour, depending on experience (potential to be higher), plus a company-wide 15–17% profit-sharing bonus

Equipment experience is not required. We prioritize chemical application/mixing experience and train the seed/equipment specifics.

What a day looks like

You arrive at our Grand Ridge seed production plant and head to the treatment tower—the final stop before bagging. You set up the automated treater, load exact chemical recipes, and verify customer specs (fungicide, insecticide, or other treatments). As seed flows through, you monitor screens, sample product, and fine-tune settings for consistent coating. You keep meticulous notes, maintain a clean, safe work area, and lend a hand with basic upkeep on the equipment. During peak season (October–November), you shift into 2nd shift to keep production humming.

Impact you’ll make
  • Operate an automated seed-treating system to apply precise coatings to sized, cleaned seed corn.
  • Mix and apply treatment chemicals safely and accurately to match customer specifications and label requirements.
  • Work confidently at heights in the treatment tower; this is the last quality checkpoint before bagging.
  • Use basic computer controls to run, monitor, and document the process.
  • Assist with routine maintenance and general equipment care (training available).
  • Lift and handle materials of at least 60 lbs while maintaining a tidy, compliant work area.
  • Follow all chemical handling, safety, and PPE procedures; expect exposure to seed dust and pollen (PPE provided).
  • Commit to 2nd shift during peak season (October–November).
What you bring
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Background in chemical application or chemical mixing is strongly valued (e.g., ag retail/co-op crop protection, applicator, fertilizer blending, pest control, lawn care, water treatment, or industrial chemical handling).
  • Comfort working at heights in a tower setting.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with automated controls is a plus.
  • Basic maintenance aptitude helpful but not required.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs.
  • Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift during the fall (October–November).
  • Agriculture or seed knowledge is welcome and trainable; equipment-specific experience is not required.
  • Able to work around seed dust and pollen (with PPE).
Physical setting

Seed production plant environment with tower work (heights), chemical handling, standing, and lifting (minimum 60 lbs). Exposure to dust and pollen; PPE provided. 2nd shift required during the peak fall season.

Compensation & benefits

Hourly: $19–$20/hour depending on experience (potential to be higher), plus a company-wide 15–17% profit-sharing bonus.

  • Health, dental, disability, and 401(k)
  • $150 annual clothing allowance
  • Paid company team-building / outing days
  • Seasonal overtime available during peak production
  • Full benefit details shared with qualified candidates during screening
