EFC International is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Welder/Machine Operator to join our St. Elizabeth branch. The Welder/Machine Operator is responsible for fabricating, welding, and operating metalworking machinery to produce high-quality steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel components. This role includes interpreting engineering blueprints, setting up and operating machines, inspecting finished parts, and maintaining safety and quality standards throughout production processes.

Responsibilities

Welding Responsibilities:

    • Perform MIG welding on low/medium carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components.
    • Pass and maintain AWS D1.1 structural steel welding certification (1G position).
    • Inspect completed welds for defects and make necessary corrections.
    • Follow welding procedures and engineering drawings to ensure compliance with specifications.

Machine Operation & Fabrication:

    • Set up and calibrate machines for daily operations, including cleaning and tool preparation.
    • Control machine settings (e.g., speed, feed rate) and monitor production processes.
    • Feed raw materials or parts into semi-automated machines.
    • Test and troubleshoot machines to ensure proper function and output quality.
    • Operate metalworking equipment such as saws, rollers, shears, brakes, drill presses, and cutters.
    • Perform grinding and finishing work on completed components.
    • Measure, mark, and cut materials according to blueprints and layout specifications.
    • Construct base templates when needed and verify design accuracy before fabrication.

Inspection, Quality & Documentation:

    • Read and interpret engineering blueprints and part drawings.
    • Use precision tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, tape measures) to inspect parts and ensure conformance to specs.
    • Perform quality checks throughout the fabrication process and on final products.
    • Record production data, document defects, and maintain activity logs and job reports.
    • Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.

Requirements & Skills

  • ·         High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical training in welding or machine operation preferred.
  • ·         2+ years of experience in welding and machine operation in a fabrication environment.
  • ·         Proficient in MIG welding and metal fabrication techniques.
  • ·         Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • ·         Familiar with setup, operation, and troubleshooting of metalworking machinery.
  • ·         Skilled in using precision measuring instruments and inspection methods.
  • ·         Strong attention to detail, safety-conscious, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • ·         Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs.) and stand for extended periods.
