Description:
The Lead Dispatcher oversees dispatch operations for OTR and aggregate trucking, maximizing utilization, profitability, compliance, and customer service.

Dispatch Operations

• Oversee dispatch, assign drivers/equipment, coordinate schedules, monitor HOS, resolve service issues.

Truck Brokerage

• Broker third-party trucks, maintain carrier relationships, negotiate rates, verify insurance/authority.

Lane Development

• Find profitable freight lanes, use load boards, analyze lane profitability.

Contracts & Documentation

• Process contracts, task orders, purchase orders, maintain records.

Permitting & Oversize Load Management

• Know how to obtain oversize/overweight permits, determine which permits are required based on load dimensions, weight, route, and state regulations; coordinate escorts and route restrictions when required.

Regulatory & Compliance

• Ensure DOT/FMCSA, OSHA, HOS, IFTA, permits, registrations, driver qualification compliance.

Risk Management

• Monitor safety, insurance, claims, liabilities, contingency planning.

Revenue & Margin

• Understand pricing models, margins, fuel, deadhead, maintenance, negotiate profitable rates.

Leadership & Communication

• Lead dispatch staff, communicate with customers/drivers, train team, track KPIs.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years dispatch experience
• Leadership experience preferred
• Knowledge of freight brokerage, TMS, load boards, DOT/FMCSA regulations
• Strong organization, communication, negotiation, financial and analytical skills
