Director of Accounting

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead accounting and financial reporting for an electric cooperative. The role will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, audits, budgeting, forecasting, regulatory compliance, and accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger, month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Lead and supervise the accounting team, including training and performance management.
• Manage annual audits, tax reporting, and regulatory filings.
• Prepare and file RUS Form 7 and maintain compliance with RUS accounting requirements.
• Support rate cases, cost-of-service studies, financial forecasts, and special projects.
• Work with auditors, banks, lenders, regulators, vendors, and other cooperatives.
• Oversee NISC and iVue ABS system updates and processes.
• Manage capital credits, inventory reconciliations, invoices, and accounting controls.
• Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Partner with executive leadership on financial and operational matters.
  

Required / Preferred Qualifications

• Progressively responsible utility accounting experience, preferably with an electric cooperative.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and utility accounting practices.
• Experience with RUS System of Accounts and RUS Form 7 strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of NRECA, utility regulations, rate schedules, and regulatory filings.
• Experience with rate cases and cost-of-service studies preferred.
• CPA and Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
• Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with NISC/iVue ABS is highly desirable.
• Ability to work beyond normal hours when required and travel occasionally.
