Community Outreach Specialist – Medicare & Senior Services

 

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours/week, 8-4:30, lunch from 12 to 1

 

Work Arrangement: Home-based with regional travel, must report to Harrisburg on the first day to get computer and badge.

 

Location: Southwest Pennsylvania

 

Must live in one of these counties: Clearfield, Jefferson, Elk, Cameron, Potter, Mckean, Forest, Clarion, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Crawford, or Erie). Travel within these counties is required.

Travel: Within assigned region

Position Summary

 

We are seeking a Community Outreach Specialist to support Pennsylvania's Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program. This position provides education, outreach, and direct assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, families, caregivers, community organizations, and volunteers.

 

The successful candidate will investigate and resolve complex Medicare billing concerns, provide education on Medicare fraud and abuse prevention, coordinate community resources, and recruit and support SMP volunteers throughout the assigned region.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide one-on-one assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and families regarding Medicare billing errors, fraud, and abuse.
  • Research and interpret Medicare rules, policies, and guidelines.
  • Resolve complex beneficiary inquiries and coordinate appropriate referrals to government agencies and law enforcement.
  • Conduct community outreach, presentations, and educational events.
  • Recruit, train, and retain SMP volunteers.
  • Coordinate with Area Agencies on Aging, community organizations, healthcare providers, and other partners.
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to regional organizations and facilities.
  • Analyze program data and recommend program improvements.
  • Maintain accurate case, outreach, volunteer, and program records.
  • Participate in statewide SMP initiatives and collaborate with the SMP Project Manager and other Regional Specialists.
  • Travel throughout the assigned Southwest Pennsylvania region.

A candidate who is comfortable working directly with people, solving complex problems, researching regulations, and traveling into the community would be a strong fit.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, social work, public health, or related field and
  • At least two years of professional experience in human services involving research, outreach, or social services to clients.

 

Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
