The Machinist III is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture precision parts that meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This role requires advanced machining knowledge, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Program CNC machines using CamWorks and SolidWorks software.

Utilize knowledge of Mastercam or GibbsCAM software, with training provided for CamWorks as needed.

Perform light G-code editing at the machine to optimize programs and correct machining issues.

Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual lathes, and other machining equipment.

Create and modify simple machine programs directly at the machine when required.

Select tooling, establish work and tool offsets, and optimize machining processes.

Read and interpret:

Blueprints

GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

CAD drawings

Engineering sketches and specifications

Conduct in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments, including:

Micrometers

Calipers

Pin gauges

Indicators

Other precision gauges

Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and quality issues to ensure efficient production.

Perform routine machine maintenance and basic equipment repairs.

Understand material characteristics and machining requirements for various metals and other materials.

Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, coworkers, and vendors.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Required Qualifications


High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience programming CNC equipment using CAM software.

Proficiency with CamWorks and SolidWorks preferred.

Experience with Mastercam or GibbsCAM is acceptable; training on CamWorks will be provided.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and GD&T requirements.

Working knowledge of G-code programming and machine-side editing.

Experience setting up and operating CNC and manual lathes.

Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling selection, feeds, speeds, and material properties.

Ability to use precision measuring and inspection equipment accurately.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications


Advanced CNC programming experience.

Experience with multi-axis machining operations.

Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.

Experience communicating directly with suppliers and outside vendors.

Physical Requirements


Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Ability to safely operate machine tools and inspection equipment.

Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metalworking fluids.
