Outdoor Program Climbing Wall Attendant - Recreation and Wellness

About the Department

Assist in wall operations, wall maintenance and maintain a safe and fun climbing environment. Assist with the administrative tasks and special events at the Climbing Wall.

Position Duties

• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive rapport with patrons and coworkers.
• Open Climbing Wall, monitor activities, administer belay and orientation tests, and close the Climbing Wall.
• Maintain a safe and positive Climbing Wall operation and identify and correct any unsafe actions concerning Climbing Wall patrons.
• Inspect Climbing Wall equipment as assigned, accurately report equipment condition on the inspection sheets, and report any equipment issues to Climbing Wall administration.
• Participate in periodic route-setting sessions with other Climbing Wall staff members.
• Operate various computer applications.
• Enforce rules and regulations of the Climbing Wall.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in Recreation and Wellness Student Employee Manual.
• Promote and support the mission of the Department of Recreation and Wellness.
• Additional Responsibilities
• Attend mandatory staff meetings and training.
• Participate in Student Development and Leadership Program.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess and maintain current CPR, First Aid and AED certifications.
• Able to teach belay and wall orientation classes (knot tying, correct belay technique, etc.).
• Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication, professional mannerisms, and a friendly demeanor.
• Work independently and in a team.
