Work Experience Requirements:

  • Assists the Dentist in all dental procedures.
  • Completes Time Out/Intake on all patients.
  • Set up treatment rooms for procedures
  • Greet patients and ensure patient is properly draped and ready for procedure.
  • Display compassion to help patients feel comfortable
  • Ensure patients’ questions are answered thoroughly before the leave
  • Properly sterilizes operatories and equipment according to OSHA guidelines between patients.
  • Takes X-rays; develops X-rays; mounts X-rays.
  • Keeps the operatories well stocked with supplies. Orders supplies as necessary.
  • Stores and keeps track of all dental laboratory cases.
  • Fills out and tracks Medicaid/insurance pre-authorizations.
  • Monitors the upkeep of dental equipment on a weekly basis.
  • Disinfect treatment rooms according to OSHA regulations.
  • Test the autoclaves on a weekly basis.
  • Assists in laboratory duties.
  • Wear proper protective equipment during procedures, including gloves, gown, and mask.
  • Reports any equipment repair that is needed to the supervisor.
  • Prepares for and acts appropriately to medical emergencies in the dental office.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of accredited dental assistant program or dental assistant experience (minimum of 1 year) in accordance with Louisiana regulations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of dental procedures, instruments and infection control.
  • Experience with electronic dental records is preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • BLS required (American Heart Association)
  • Must have Xray certification per the State Dental Board of Louisiana
