CDL Class A Flatbed Driver – Union Position



Superior Duct Fabrication is seeking an experienced CDL Class A Driver to join our team. This is a union position with Local 359 SMART and requires membership as a Material Expediter.

The ideal candidate will have prior commercial driving experience and must have flatbed driving experience, including experience safely securing and transporting flatbed loads.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Occasional Saturdays as needed (overtime)
  • Approximately 38–45 hours per week
  • Overtime is very likely
  • Local driving – no overnight routes


Position Summary


The CDL Driver is responsible for safely operating commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailer combinations and flatbed trucks, to transport and deliver fabricated HVAC products and materials.

This position requires a strong commitment to safety, dependable attendance, excellent communication, and the ability to safely secure, inspect, transport, load, and unload materials.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely operate tractor-trailer combinations and commercial vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more.
  • Operate flatbed trucks and trailers to transport fabricated HVAC products, materials, and equipment.
  • Properly secure flatbed loads using chains, binders, straps, blocks, covers, and other appropriate load-securement equipment.
  • Inspect loads before departure and throughout transportation to ensure cargo remains properly secured.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Verify bills of lading, shipping paperwork, load documentation, delivery instructions, and routes.
  • Safely maneuver trucks and trailers into loading and unloading areas.
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials as required.
  • Operate truck-mounted equipment and other loading-related equipment when necessary.
  • Obtain required delivery receipts, signatures, and other documentation.
  • Maintain required driver logs and vehicle documentation in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Follow all DOT requirements, traffic laws, company safety procedures, and transportation regulations.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, cargo damage, or other safety concerns immediately.
  • Couple and uncouple trailers and properly connect or disconnect air and electrical lines.
  • Inspect trailers and cargo areas for damage, debris, or other concerns before and after deliveries.
  • Perform minor vehicle maintenance as appropriate, such as checking or adding oil, fuel, or other fluids.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, customers, warehouse/shop personnel, and other drivers.
  • Maintain a professional and customer-service-oriented attitude when making deliveries.


Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
  • Flatbed driving experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience required
  • Experience with flatbed load securement, including chains, binders, and straps
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe commercial driving practices
  • Ability to safely operate tractor-trailer combinations
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Ability to read and understand bills of lading, delivery instructions, and other transportation documents
  • Ability to use GPS, mobile phones, and other standard transportation-related technology
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Must be able to successfully complete required pre-employment screening, including a drug screening and job-related physical


Physical Requirements


This is an active driving and delivery position. Employees must be able to:

  • Sit and drive for extended periods
  • Frequently enter and exit commercial vehicles
  • Bend, twist, reach, and perform repetitive movements
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Secure and unsecure flatbed loads using chains, binders, straps, and other equipment
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials as required
  • Work outdoors and in varying weather conditions

Employees are required to follow all company and jobsite safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
