Mover — $160/Day | Opportunity to Grow Into Crew Lead/Driver Overview

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking mover to join our moving team. This is a 1099 position paying $160 per day to start.

While we are currently hiring for a mover, we are especially interested in finding someone who wants more than just a temporary job. We are growing and would love to find someone who can learn our business, prove themselves, and eventually grow into a Crew Lead and/or Driver position for our second truck.

Previous moving experience is preferred, but it is not required. We can teach the right person. What matters most to us is finding someone who shows up on time, works hard, is honest, dependable, has integrity, and wants to learn.

What You Should Know About the Job

Moving is labor-intensive work, and we want applicants to understand what the job involves before applying.

During the summer, which is our peak season, some days can be long and physically demanding. There will be days when you're lifting and moving furniture for hours, working in the heat, and occasionally working late into the evening until the job is finished.

The cooler months are generally less strenuous and our days are often shorter, but this is still a physical job year-round.

If you know that you cannot handle manual labor day after day, long summer days, or occasionally working late into the evening, this probably isn't the right position for you.

It takes a special kind of person to thrive in moving. You need stamina, a good attitude, the ability to keep going when you're tired, and a willingness to work as part of a team. But for someone who has those qualities, this isn't necessarily just another labor job—you have the opportunity to learn, grow, take on responsibility, and work toward something.

Duties

• Load and unload furniture, boxes, and household goods.
• Carefully wrap, protect, carry, and secure customers' belongings.
• Work efficiently as part of a moving crew.
• Follow instructions from the driver and crew lead.
• Treat customers, their homes, and their belongings with respect.
• Help keep trucks and moving equipment clean and organized.
• Be willing to learn additional responsibilities and our way of doing things.

What We're Looking For

• Previous moving experience is preferred, but not required.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality are extremely important.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding work.
• Able to handle long and physically demanding days during peak season.
• Honest, trustworthy, and respectful.
• Able to take direction and work well with a team.
• Willing to learn and take on additional responsibility.
• Able to lift and carry heavy furniture throughout the workday.
• Reliable transportation to work.
• Leadership potential is a big plus.
• A valid driver's license and clean driving record are a plus for someone interested in eventually moving into a driver position.

Travel & Work Area

We are based in the Midlothian/Richmond area, but our moving jobs are not always local. In addition to Richmond and the surrounding cities, we regularly travel for jobs throughout Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and North Carolina.

Because of the distance of some jobs, there can be long days, particularly during our busy summer season. Applicants should be comfortable traveling with the crew and understand that the workday is not always over at a specific time.

Approximately 99% of the time, you will still be home at the end of the day. However, there are occasional jobs that require an overnight stay out of town. When an overnight stay is required, the company will provide and pay for the hotel accommodations.

Pay, 1099 Status & Growth

Starting pay: $160/day — 1099 independent contractor position

Because this is a 1099 position, taxes are not withheld from your pay. You are responsible for setting aside money throughout the year and paying any taxes you owe. Please keep this in mind when considering the daily rate.

This position has real potential for advancement. Someone who proves to be dependable, hardworking, trustworthy, and capable of leading others may have the opportunity to move into a Crew Lead and/or Driver role with increased responsibility and pay.
