About this job
Job Description
Note: This is a LEAD-level position for an experienced HVAC service technician. A minimum of 5 years of actual HVAC field service experience is required. Technical school, trade school, or classroom/lab experience does not count toward the 5-year field experience requirement.
Summit HVAC & Construction is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Service Technician to join our team. We are a family-owned HVAC company serving the DFW area and are looking for someone capable of independently diagnosing, repairing, and servicing residential and light commercial HVAC systems.
This is not an entry-level or training position. The right candidate should be comfortable being trusted as a senior technician in the field, communicating directly with customers, making sound diagnostic decisions, and representing our company professionally without requiring routine technical supervision.
Responsibilities
- Independently diagnose residential and light commercial HVAC systems
- Perform HVAC repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Accurately diagnose electrical, airflow, refrigerant, controls, and mechanical issues
- Complete seasonal maintenance thoroughly, including condenser cleaning and system inspection
- Identify the root cause of equipment problems rather than simply treating symptoms
- Clearly explain findings and repair options to customers
- Identify legitimate repair and replacement opportunities
- Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, recommendations, photos, and customer communication
- Complete invoices and collect/document payments correctly
- Perform quality-control checks on completed work
- Assist less-experienced technicians when needed
- Communicate with ownership when unusual or significant issues arise
- Maintain a clean company vehicle, tools, and professional appearance
Required Experience
Applicants must have at least 5 years of verifiable, hands-on HVAC field service experience.
We respectfully ask that applicants do not apply based solely on HVAC technical/trade school experience. Education is valuable, but this Lead Technician position requires substantial real-world diagnostic and service experience.
Candidates should be experienced with:
- Residential split systems and heat pumps
- Gas furnaces
- Package units
- Light commercial equipment
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Refrigerant diagnostics
- Airflow and ductwork diagnosis
- Thermostats and low-voltage controls
- Capacitors, motors, contactors, relays, and related components
- R-410A systems
- Modern R-454B/A2L equipment or willingness to become proficient with it
What We're Looking For:
We are specifically looking for a technician who can be given a service call and trusted to diagnose it correctly, communicate professionally with the customer, perform or recommend the appropriate repair, document the work, and close out the job properly.
Technical ability matters, but so do honesty, communication, accountability, and professionalism. We would rather have a technician ask for a second opinion on an unusual problem than guess or perform an unnecessary repair.
Qualifications
- 5+ years actual HVAC field service experience — REQUIRED
- EPA certification
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Strong residential diagnostic ability
- Ability to work independently
- Professional customer-service skills
- Ability to use mobile dispatch/invoicing software
- Ability to participate in rotating peak-season weekend coverage
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly compensation based on experience
- Overtime opportunities during peak season
- Commission opportunities
- Company vehicle
- Company phone
- Company-provided specialty tools/equipment
- Healthcare contribution
- Paid time off
- Paid company holidays
- Consistent year-round employment
- Direct access to ownership
- Opportunity to become a key long-term member of a growing local company
Schedule: Full-time, approximately 40+ hours per week. Typical start time is approximately 7:30–8:00 a.m. Limited weekend or after hours availability (very rare)
Experience requirement: HVAC field service – 5 years minimum.
Please do not apply if your HVAC experience consists primarily of technical school, classroom training, installation-only experience, or helper/apprentice experience. We are specifically hiring an experienced Lead Service Technician.
