Job Description
Deck Lead Carpenter
Bacon Home Remodeling – Western New York
Pay: $28–$33 per hour, based on experience
Full-Time | Seasonal Winter Schedule May Apply
About the Position
Bacon Home Remodeling is looking for an experienced Deck Lead Carpenter to join our growing exterior remodeling division.
This is a hands-on position. We are looking for someone who knows how to build decks and can take responsibility for getting the job done correctly, efficiently, and professionally.
You will work alongside your crew every day while taking the lead on jobsite execution, quality, organization, and productivity.
We are not looking for someone who needs to be taught how to build a deck. We are looking for an experienced carpenter who can look at a set of plans, understand the project, organize the work, and build it.
Responsibilities
- Lead and work alongside a small deck construction crew
- Build new decks, porches, stairs, and railings
- Perform deck tear-offs and rebuilds
- Frame decks using proper construction methods
- Lay out and build stairs and stringers
- Install composite and wood decking
- Install railing systems
- Read plans, measurements, and job specifications
- Lay out projects accurately and keep work square, level, and properly aligned
- Identify jobsite issues and develop solutions
- Maintain high workmanship and quality standards
- Keep the crew productive throughout the workday
- Verify materials and tools needed for each project
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
- Communicate job progress and issues with the Project Manager
- Treat customers and their homes professionally
What We're Looking For
Professional deck-building experience is required.
The right candidate should have:
- Strong residential carpentry experience
- Hands-on experience building decks from start to finish
- Experience with deck framing, stairs, decking, and railings
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure and construction tools
- Ability to work independently and make good decisions in the field
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to lead by example
- Dependability and consistent attendance
- Good communication skills
- Pride in workmanship
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physically demanding construction work
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Experience installing composite decking and railing systems is strongly preferred.
What We Expect From Our Leads
At Bacon Home Remodeling, being a Lead means more than being the most experienced carpenter on the job.
You are expected to Own the Outcome.
That means recognizing problems before they become bigger problems, keeping your crew moving, maintaining our quality standards, communicating when something isn't right, and taking responsibility for delivering a finished project you are proud to put your name on.
Compensation & Schedule
$28–$35 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability.
This is a full-time position during our primary construction season. Because exterior remodeling in Western New York is weather-dependent, the position may include a planned seasonal layoff or reduced schedule during the winter months.
Our goal is to provide a clear, predictable seasonal schedule and build a strong exterior crew that returns each construction season.
