The Industrial Material Engineer, this position is a unique opportunity to influence the way material flow operates in our assembly plants and lead the factory of future material flow implementation. Your mission is to implement material strategies & automation in our assembly centers while work with cross functional teams to setup efficient and lean material flow in Assembly Centers, while collaborating with cross functional teams and work as ‘One Team’ to execute new material automation projects, develop business case for material strategies & automation initiatives while developing long-term material flow vision for Automation & LMS implementation in Assembly Centers. Additionally, you will develop, recommend, and implement changes which will result in the improvement of manufacturing processes and/or product quality, improve part delivery accuracy, and reduce overall cost of material handling. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to your success.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement work measurement, line balancing, ergonomics, and simulation studies for manufacturing optimization projects.
- Determine labor impacts through work measurement, simulation, and takt-time validation.
- Develop and support preventive maintenance and operational plans for optimization projects.
- Create and revise operational documentation, including JES (Job Element Sheets), TIS (Task Instruction Sheets), ULOC (User Locations), and DLOC (Delivery Locations).
- Manage facility layouts and coordinate AutoCAD-based plant layouts to support future automation and space utilization.
- Develop material delivery strategies, non-conforming material handling processes, container plans, and PFEP (Plan for Every Part) methodologies.
- Build business cases and cost justifications for automation and material-handling initiatives.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Industrial Engineering teams to execute projects.
- Drive waste elimination related to quality, scrap, inventory, space utilization, safety, material handling, and labor efficiency.
- Optimize workflows, sequencing, and crew plans to maximize productivity and reduce MCPU (Manufacturing Cost Per Unit).
- Lead automation implementation projects from concept through plant installation and launch.
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, material flow, logistics, or production operations within an industrial or automotive environment.
- Experience developing and implementing material flow strategies and manufacturing process improvements.
- Knowledge of work measurement, line balancing, labor analysis, ergonomics, and takt time validation.
- Experience supporting or implementing automation and material-handling solutions in manufacturing environments.
- Ability to analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost.
- Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, Production, Industrial Engineering, and Supply Chain teams.
- Experience developing business cases, project justifications, and implementation plans for manufacturing initiatives.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Access for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
This is a Contract position based out of Lansing, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
