Job Title: Construction LaborerJob Description

This role supports carpentry and construction activities by cutting, assembling, and installing wood and metal components for building projects. You will work closely with experienced tradespeople to assist with layout, framing, and finishing tasks, while learning new skills in a supportive and hands-on environment. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch and two paid 15-minute breaks each day.

Responsibilities
  • Cut timber and lumber to specified dimensions using appropriate tools and measurements.
  • Hold timbers, lumber, and paneling securely in place for fastening, cutting, or installation.
  • Drill holes in lumber as required for fasteners, anchors, or assembly.
  • Hold plumb bobs, sighting rods, and other layout tools to help establish accurate reference points and lines.
  • Assist in laying out foundations, building lines, and anchor bolt locations according to project specifications.
  • Set and install hollow metal doors and frames in accordance with layout and alignment requirements.
  • Install interior and exterior trim components, ensuring clean, accurate, and secure finishes.
  • Frame wood structures, including walls, openings, and other structural elements, following measurements and plans.
  • Help establish and maintain reference points and lines to guide construction work.
  • Operate and assist with material handling equipment, including forklifts, as directed and trained.
  • Support general construction tasks such as organizing materials, maintaining a clean work area, and assisting team members as needed.
  • Follow safety procedures and use tools and equipment correctly to maintain a safe jobsite.
Essential Skills
  • Carpentry skills with the ability to perform basic framing and finishing tasks.
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
  • Strong willingness to learn and the ability to be highly teachable.
  • Basic construction experience, including familiarity with material handling.
  • Capability to assist with finish carpentry tasks such as installing trim and doors.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Residence within approximately 30 miles of Sleepy Eye.
  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate a forklift as part of material handling duties.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints or construction drawings is very helpful.
  • Experience in finish carpentry, including setting doors and installing trim, is a plus.
  • Previous experience in construction or carpentry environments is beneficial.
  • Comfort working both indoors and on-site when delivering or installing materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Work Environment

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.00/hr.
