Position Summary:
Greater Southern Tier BOCES is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Paraprofessional (Teaching Assistant) to support instructional programs across classrooms. This role involves assisting teachers in delivering lessons, supporting diverse learners, and helping maintain a structured, positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist certified teachers with lesson implementation and classroom activities
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students
• Support students with special needs, including academic, behavioral, and physical assistance
• Reinforce instructional concepts and learning objectives
• Monitor and manage student behavior using positive intervention strategies
• Assist with classroom setup, materials preparation, and organization
• Supervise students during transitions, lunch, and school activities
• Help collect data and maintain accurate student records
• Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required
• New York State Teaching Assistant Certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred
• Experience working with children or individuals with special needs preferred

• Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities
• Patience, flexibility, and dependability
• Ability to follow directions and maintain confidentiality
• Basic computer and organizational skills
Working Conditions:
• Classroom and program-based settings across the Southern Tier region
• May involve working with students with physical, emotional, or behavioral challenges
• Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting
Requirements:
• Fingerprinting and background check clearance through New York State Education Department
• Compliance with all state and BOCES employment requirements
• CPR/First Aid certification (may be required)
