Surgical Physician Assistant – General Surgery / Surgical First Assist
Assignment Details
• Location: Potsdam, New York
• Provider Type: Physician Assistant
• Specialty: General Surgery / Surgical First Assist
• Start Date: December 14, 2026
• Duration: 26 weeks / ongoing PRN coverage
• Positions Available: 1
• Practice Setting: Acute Care Hospital
• Coverage includes Surgical First Assist OR responsibilities and Surgical Floor coverage
• Primary patient populations include General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients
• EMR: Epic
• Robotics experience required
Compensation: Hourly - $145/hr, 24-Hour Call - $950 per 24 hours, Night Call - $315/shift, Call Back - $210/hr.
Schedule
• Ongoing PRN coverage with specific December coverage needs
• December 14-18: 7:00 AM-5:00 PM
• December 18-21: 5:00 PM-7:00 AM coverage
• December 28-30: Three 12-hour shifts
• Weeknight call: 5:00 PM-7:00 AM
• Weekend call: Friday 5:00 PM-Monday 7:00 AM
• Weekend rounding: Saturday-Sunday, approximately 8:00 AM-12:00 PM
• 30-minute lunch break required
Patient Population / Volume
• Adults
• Acutely ill patients with a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions
• Approximately 10-15 patients per provider
• 109 total beds
Clinical Responsibilities
• Provide Surgical First Assist coverage in the operating room
• Provide Surgical Floor coverage
• Assist physicians with inpatient rounding
• Complete progress notes
• Manage patient orders
• Coordinate and complete discharges
• Assist with surgical consultations
• Provide care primarily for General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients
Surgical First Assist Responsibilities
• Cauterize wounds and vessels
• Assist with hemostasis and control of bleeding
• Pack surgical sponges as appropriate
• Position patients to maintain circulation and surgical access
• Place clamps and sutures
• Close skin using sutures, staples, or adhesives
• Apply direct pressure to veins and tissue
• Assist with suction, drainage, and irrigation
• Immobilize and position patients appropriately on the operating table
• Support the surgeon throughout operative procedures
• Robotics experience required

Requirements
• Board Certified – Required
• Active New York license in hand – Required
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience – Required
• Recent surgical experience required
• Robotics experience – Required
• Epic experience – Required
• AHA or RQI BLS – Required
• AHA or RQI ACLS – Required
• ATLS – Required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Cannot accept residents or fellows
Submission / Credentialing Requirements
• Agency-branded CV required at submission
• New York license must be active and in hand
• Work history must be current
• No unexplained employment gaps of 30 days or longer
• Any malpractice history, including dismissed cases, requires a provider statement
• Candidate email and phone number must be included
