The Opportunity

Kapsons is partnering with a Fortune 1000 industry leader and one of the largest providers of commercial landscaping services in the United States to hire an experienced Business Developer – Landscape Construction & Installation.

This is a field-based B2B sales role focused on identifying, developing, and closing commercial landscape installation and small-scale construction projects outside of the existing maintenance portfolio.

The Business Developer will own the sales process from prospecting and relationship development through proposal, negotiation, and close, while partnering closely with estimating, operations, and project management teams to successfully transition awarded projects into execution.

The ideal candidate combines strong B2B sales skills with knowledge of commercial landscaping, landscape construction, installation, enhancements, or related construction services and has an established ability to develop relationships with property managers, developers, general contractors, and other commercial decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales

  • Generate new commercial landscape construction and installation opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, cold outreach, and industry relationships.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy pipeline of installation projects outside of the existing landscape maintenance portfolio.
  • Identify prospective customers and develop relationships with key decision-makers and influencers.
  • Understand customer requirements and develop customized, solution-oriented proposals.
  • Prepare and deliver professional sales presentations highlighting capabilities, solutions, and overall value.
  • Manage opportunities through the complete sales cycle from initial prospecting through negotiation and contract award.
  • Negotiate and close contracts consistent with established pricing, margin, and profitability objectives.
  • Consistently achieve established revenue, pipeline, and sales activity targets.

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with property managers, developers, general contractors, facility managers, property owners, and other commercial decision-makers.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact throughout the sales process.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure a smooth transition from sales to project execution.
  • Help transition completed installation projects into long-term landscape maintenance relationships where appropriate.
  • Maintain communication with customers following project award to support satisfaction and identify additional opportunities.
  • Identify cross-selling, upselling, and future project opportunities within established accounts.

Estimating, Proposals & Project Collaboration

  • Partner closely with estimating, operations, project management, branch leadership, and enhancement teams to develop accurate and competitive proposals.
  • Participate in site walks and project evaluations to understand scope, customer requirements, and potential project challenges.
  • Collaborate with branch leadership on commercial landscape installation opportunities up to approximately $1 million.
  • Review larger-scale opportunities of $1 million or greater with senior leadership.
  • Help ensure proposed solutions can be operationally executed while meeting customer expectations and profitability objectives.
  • Maintain communication between sales and operations throughout the project handoff process.

Market Development & Industry Engagement

  • Maintain strong awareness of local commercial development, construction activity, competitor activity, and overall market conditions.
  • Identify emerging opportunities and targeted customer segments within the assigned territory.
  • Develop relationships within the local commercial real estate, property management, construction, development, and landscape industries.
  • Represent the organization at trade associations, industry events, networking functions, and community engagements.
  • Utilize market intelligence and industry relationships to position the company as a preferred commercial landscape installation partner.

Pipeline Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of prospecting activity, customer interactions, opportunities, proposals, and sales results within the CRM.
  • Develop reliable sales forecasts and communicate pipeline activity to branch and senior leadership.
  • Partner with leadership to establish annual sales targets, budgets, and territory development strategies.
  • Manage multiple opportunities and projects simultaneously across an assigned geographic territory.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • 3–5+ years of successful B2B sales or business development experience.
  • Experience within commercial landscaping, landscape construction, landscape installation, enhancements, construction, property management, facility services, or related industries is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop new business through proactive prospecting and relationship building.
  • Proven experience managing a sales pipeline and closing commercial contracts.
  • Strong understanding of proposals, estimating, pricing, margins, and contract negotiations.
  • Ability to build relationships with property managers, developers, general contractors, facility managers, and senior-level decision-makers.
  • Strong sales presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities across a large geographic territory.
  • Self-motivated, competitive, results-driven, and comfortable operating independently.
  • Experience with CRM platforms and sales reporting tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
